"The name doesn't do this program justice! This is the most complete package I've seen for the screenwriter in one application from outline to final draft, including character development tools, color- coded step cards, and my favorite, the FeelFactor tool. Since I teach Writing for Emotional Impact, I'm especially partial to a tool that helps you focus on the reader's emotional reaction to your material. I recommend this program to all scribes from novice to professional."
Karl Iglesias UCLA Instructor, Author "Writing for Emotional Impact"

"Movie Outline not only makes outlining easier but actually fun. I thoroughly enjoy working with it and find it easy to use, well designed, helpful and entertaining. If you’re a novice or a seasoned pro, this program can aid greatly in your creative process. "
Marc Scott Zicree - Writer/Producer Star Trek - The Next Generation, DS9, Babylon 5, Sliders

Screenplay Formatting & Auto-Complete
Unlike regular word processors, Movie Outline lays out your text to industry standard screenplay format by using handy 'Tab and Enter' keyboard shortcuts. It also guesses the next character when typing dialogue, suggests scene headings and transitions via Auto-Complete and automatically paginates as you type. With Movie Outline you can focus on your story and characters and maintain your creative flow without worrying about the technicalities of formatting your script.
KeithWilliamsonStructure your Acts
PowerView enables you to view and customize the structure of your story in a color-coded visual manner alongside your selected Reference Outline. You can save structure templates and choose colors to indicate the various sections of your story, enabling you to gauge your structure against your reference structure. You can also load sample structures such as the "Hero's Journey", and expand and collapse the content of each step allowing you to view your outline, script and notes in full or just by titles.
Outline your Story
Creating your outline is easy. Simply write the title and content of your step and use the console to add a new step which then appears in your Outline List on the right of the screen.
You can highlight steps in any color you want and merge multiple steps into a single step. The console also allows you to navigate steps, delete steps and rearrange your outline.
You can choose the font, size, style and alignment you wish from the toolbar or from the handy right-click Contextual Menu which also has editing and advanced search options.
Create Unique and Consistent Characters
Dialogue Spotlight is a powerful tool that helps you create unique characters by analyzing dialogue and voice-over throughout your script. It allows you to isolate a specific character's dialogue in your screenplay in order to maintain a consistent style of speech and avoid over using or unintentionally repeating words. You can also isolate dialogue between two characters to track how they interact as your story progresses, and isolate voice-over to help you follow the path of narration.

What's more, you can also export your own outline and script into the library in order to compare multiple versions of your project, helping you track changes and plan rewrites.

What Makes Movie Outline 3 So Unique?

Different genres of movies require different amounts of scenes. Dramas are typically around 35-40 scenes because they usually have longer scenes than Thrillers, Comedies and Action and Adventure movies, which are normally around 45 scenes with more action and less dialogue.

To help plan out your project, Movie Outline allows you to simultaneously refer to produced feature film outline analyses and gauge the progress of your own story in contrast to some of the most successful Hollywood movies.

So if you get stuck on scene 15 and wonder if your structure is working, simply select your movie Reference Outline and see what happens at the same time in this example. For instance, has your antagonist entered the story too late? Or perhaps your Hero has still not had his call to adventure?

By comparing the development of your own character arcs, escalating conflicts, plot turning points and three act structure with the pros, you will be able to amend mistakes in your own narrative pacing and produce a well-structured screen story!

Example movie outlines on this software: Dead Poets Society, Die Hard, Ghost, There's Something About Mary, Good Will Hunting, Pretty Woman, Scream, Seven, Spider-Man, Terminator, When Harry Met Sally and True Romance.
